E46 drift project part 2

Moving forward in the car now. Stripped out the headlining A pillars, floor mats and the back half of the carpet to save 12.54kg. Removed the non-functioning sunroof too to save 15.70kg. Fixed the problem of the big hole in the roof with a piece of black perspex from Bunnings. Gives it a bit of a Mad Max look and adds less than a kilo 😄

Passenger seat was next. 29.2kg not including the belt buckle, which is staying in. Driver seat is actually lighter at 28.6kg (passenger seat includes a fairly comprehensive first aid kit). Instead I'm fitting a pair of fibreglass race buckets, which are only 8.48 kg each including the mounting brackets. On the passenger side the seat is fixed, driver's side will have a basic rail, which is around 3kg.

The center console and various other brackets etc added up to 5.2kg and the door trims are 5.8kg each. Adding back in the hydro handbrake and new seats with rails I've taken around 81.5kg more out of the car, in round numbers 165kg since I started. This should bring the car down to my target weight of 1400kg with me and a full tank of fuel. Next
I sent my OS Giken Superlock LSD to Award Diff and gearbox. They installed it into an auto diff, so I'll have 3.46:1 final drive. Only a 10% ratio improvement but it all helps.

While I go about fitting the new diff I will also replace old bushes in the diff mounts and subframe bushes. The subframe mounting points will be strengthened too as E46s have a history of problems with these. First step was removing the exhaust, which is all one piece from the headers back and weighs 31.5kg. Should be easy to save some weight there.
